What To Do When You Can't Get That Door Open?

There are times when the simple task of opening the door seems to be the hardest part of our job.  One word of advise is if you or your client have a new key made check it to make sure it works before you put it in the lockbox and walk away.  A can of graphite spray is nice when a lock is sticky but sometimes a new key just doesn't fit.

What Do You Do When You Can't Get That Door Open to Show That New Listing?A lego home

How many times have you gone to show a new home for sale to new clients, and you just cannot get the key to work?    Try again and again, and you just cannot get the key to turn properly.   Then you turn to your clients and ask them to try.    Sometimes the clients succeed, and that is sort of embarrassing.    I have learned to admit I am not a "key girl" - but many times, the situation could have been averted if the sellers had simply bought a nice new lock.

I have bought graphite, and that does help sometimes.    Simply squirt a little of it into the lock, and usually the key will turn more easily.

My client and I tried to see this most beautiful condominium for sale  on the water in Norwalk, but we could not get in.   I finally tried to call the listing agent, and she did not answer.   Later that evening, she did call me to say that no one else has had any troulble, but she will check the lock.   Needless to say, we did not get into that waterfront beauty.   What a shame.

I feel it is of supreme importance when you have a home for sale to make it as easy as possible for folks to get in to see the interior of your home.   I tell sellers to always make sure their locks work easily, so buyers can always get in to see the inside..     It only takes one buyer to sell to - and the one that doesn't get in may be that one special buyer.
