Granting Freedom-Money For Virginia Veteran's To Make Adaptive Changes At Home

American FlagThe Virginia Housing and Development Authority (VHDA) was established in 1972. The VHDA is a non-profit organization which helps Virginian's purchase affordable housing.  VHDA offers a variety of home loan programs aimed towards first time home buyers and veterans.

In addition the offering VA Loans the VHDA also offers "Granting Freedom" to provide funds for US Disabled Veteran's to make modifications to their homes to accomodate their disabilities.  Partnering with the Department of Housing and Community Development and other community programs the grants provide funds up to $4,000 to add ramps, chairlifts, widen doors to accomodate wheelchairs and other modifications approved by the VA.

If you are a disabled Virginia Veteran you can read more about the program and apply by filling out the Granting Freedom Program forms.  If you qualify for a VA Loan the VHDA can assist you with securing a VA Loan and disabled vets may be eligible for a waiver of the VA Loan Funding Fee.

Hi Cindy, I'm a veteran and was unaware of this.  It's good to see funds have been set aside to help our disabled veterans. If you ask me it should be more, but, at least something is being offered.

Cindy, thanks for sharing this info! As military-heavy as we are down here in Hampton Roads, our agents and their clients will definitely want to know about this.
