As Labor Day approaches the dates for Northern Virginia Fall Arts and Crafits Fair start to fill the calendar. Now more than ever it is important to consider supporting these local fairs and the artistians who spend a good part of the year preparing for them.
With the economy slowing many local artisians are feeling the pinch. The cost of the supplies they need to produce their work hasn't decreased but the number of people shopping has. The fairs are a great opportunity for you to shop "local" to find original gifts for family and friends.

Business doesn't get much more local than these artisans at the various fall festivals. And they make some really neat stuff.
I've already marked the Burke and Occoquan Festivals on my calendar. Now I see more that need to be added too.

Cal-we have a large number of options in our area and each one has a different flair.
Cindy, They do a large one every summer here called Summerfair (ok... so the name isn't overly original), but it's very cool to see all the different styles of work. We've picked up a couple of things here and there over the years to decorate our home or yard. More often than not though, the summer weekend it's scheduled turns into one of our busiest real estate weekends and we don't make it down there. Murphy's Law at work!
Liz and Bill-fortunately we have enough fall fairs that I can usually find a few hours to sneak away. But planning a vacation is sure to make the phone ring!

Perhaps a strategy for agents who are feeling their markets are slow would be to suggest a vacation. I'm trying to finish 2 more settlements this week and then leave town for a week. Hmmm as soon as I forward my phone it will start ringing.
